Eelder en Peizer Maden Climate Buffer


In the Eelder en Peizermaden nature reserve, 1700 hectares of continuous Nature and peak water storage will be realised under the Peize restructuring project (5200 hectares). The object of this project is threefold:

1. Agriculture: improving agricultural structure
2. Nature: accelerated natural development
3. Flood risk management: reducing the risk of serious pluvial flooding in Groningen

Results

The goals of the Eelder en Peizermaden climate buffer project (as an element of the reorganisation) are:

1. Restoring the natural water system of the Eelderdiep;
2. Reinforcing local Nature and the local water system;
3. Enhancing water quality;
4. Improving the agricultural structure for remaining businesses (better parcelling);
5. Optimising the management of Nature and peak water storage.

The following measures have been taken to attain these goals:

1. Acquisition of some 50 hectares of soil;
2. The route and development plan for linking the Grote Masloot and the Eelderdiep have been elaborated; the realisation will be completed in 2014;
3. Establishing a ground exchange plan;
4.- The municipality of Tynaarlo is preparing its contribution to the reorganisation of the sewage overflows of the Spierveen district (Eelde-Paterswolde); it is scheduled for 2014.
