Weather Report 2050

The Weather Report 2050 project provides insight into the local weather conditions around the year 2050 in the cities of Breda, Tilburg and ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The weather report is based on the KNMI'14 scenarios, model calculations, and information from local weather stations.

The cities utilise the insights from the study to accelerate and improve the development towards climate-resilience. The insights are used for targeted communication. They also serve as the basis for choices made with respect to the concrete design and redesign of the cities. A forecast of heavy precipitation or a number of hot days, for example, is used as a starting point for designing climate-resilient districts and streets, as well as schoolyards and buildings.

Results

The study resulted in a report and a tool. The report discusses the following questions:

  1. how will the climate change?
  2. what will the local effects be?
  3. how will they impact us?

The tool makes it possible to generate specific weather forecasts at a chosen time. Examples include the chance of extremely heavy rainfall or heat during the Tilburg Carnival or the Bossche Parade around the year 2050. Based on research, the KNMI (Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute) assumes that the Weather Report 2050 can be applied to all of Central Brabant.
