Huisje Boompje Beter Leiden

The collaboration of residents is essential to the climate-proofing of cities. HuisjeBoompjeBeter is a platform providing concrete measures that municipal authorities can use to motivate, encourage, inspire and activate residents to climate-proof their houses and gardens. The online platform can be geared to each municipality’s local wishes and individual identity. HuisjeBoompjeBeter Leiden is the first local version. The HuisjeBoompjeBeter Leiden website features a score tool enabling residents to assess their garden in terms of water friendliness, heat resilience, and Nature. Residents may place a photo of their own garden and its score on the map.

HuisjeBoompjeBeter Leiden is part of the “Good” campaign initiated by the municipality of Leiden. “Good” helps the residents of Leiden make choices in the fields of energy, Nature, and the climate. As a city of knowledge and innovation, Leiden wants to take the lead when it comes to sustainability. Leiden is furthering the sustainability of the city along six lines: Energy, Sustainable Entrepreneurship, Biodiversity, Waste Flows, Sustainable Mobility, and Climate Adaptation. With these themes, the city aims to achieve that by 2030, Leiden will have done its part in terms of reducing its environmental impact, while enhancing its appeal as a place in which to live, work and stay.
