Operation Steenbreek project in Zwolle
Volunteer organisation IVN Zwolle acts as an intermediary between the district water board and the residents of the Zwolle region with regard to the implementation of climate measures. Residents may collectively apply for a grant from the district water board.
Volunteer organisation IVN Zwolle has initiated a campaign aimed at disconnecting downspouts and depaving a minimum of 1000 m2 of roofs and gardens. This total is expected to involve some 20 to 40 houses / participants. The IVN is already in touch with several individual residents who wish to disconnect their downspouts from the sewer system and/or depave their gardens. Such measures will reduce the volume of rainwater discharged into the sewer. Depaving is promoted under the heading of Operation Steenbreek.
The IVN and the district water board have agreed that the IVN will assume an intermediary role vis-à-vis individual residents and groups of residents intending to take climate-adaptive measures. The idea is to ultimately encourage residents to collectively take measures, since grants for the construction of green roofs or greening gardens are awarded on a collective basis. Interested individual residents could, for example, involve their neighbours or even their entire street in order to qualify for such a grant.
