Klimaat Kloar pilot project contributes to a climateproof region
Climate change is causing increasingly frequent weather extremes. In addition to occasional excess water, we are faced with more and more periods of heat and drought. The area around Lichtenvoorde, Vragender, and Lievelde is also increasingly affected by climate change. For that reason, the Rijn en IJssel district water board, the municipality of Oost Gelre, the province of Gelderland, and the Dutch Federation of Agriculture and Horticulture LTO Noord – Oost Achterhoek have jointly launched the Klimaat Klaor pilot project. The pilot was completed by the end of 2019. In the video below, the area agent takes you on a tour of the projects that have been carried out under the pilot.
Klimaat Klaor is a follow-up to the successful Day of the Snowball held in May 2017. The project involves a collaboration on raising water and climate awareness. Target groups include residents (with a view to greening their gardens), entrepreneurs on industrial estates, the education sector, farmers, and landowners. Concurrently, an investigation will be launched into actions and (model) projects that can be implemented fast and concretely, initiatives that will enhance the area’s appeal in terms of living, working, and leisure activities, and that will contribute to the realisation of a sustainable, climate-friendly, and future-proof design.
Lessons learned from the project
- The focus is on tying in with the energy, interests, and dreams at play in the area itself, on capitalising on the strengths of individuals and projects in order to achieve a climate-friendly area.
- The parties have engaged an area agent to actively approach, inform, enthuse, liaise, and advise people.
- Direct communication. Phoning today means an appointment tomorrow.
