Redevelopment of car park and sewer system at Capelle-West industrial estate

At the Capelle-West industrial estate in Capelle aan den IJssel, measures have been implemented to climate-proof the premises. An underground Drainage Infiltration Transport (DIT) sewer has been constructed that drains rainwater and wastewater separately. Some rainwater can infiltrate into the soil. On top of the DIT sewer system, buffer blocks have been placed: sustainable blocks in which rainwater is temporarily stored, before slowly draining into the soil. Excess water flows into the DIT sewer and is drained into the Hollandse IJssel river. Furthermore, on the entire estate, car parks have been greened with grass concrete pavers. Grass constitutes about a third of these pavers, which helps to cool the area and make it look appealing.
