Cool rooftop garden for Amsterdam logistics hub staff
On the rooftop of AL Cityhub Hemhavens in Amsterdam, a large green recreational area has been created for staff. The rooftop garden spans 4,800 m² and is situated at a height of 25 m above the ground. Staff can stroll around here, eat lunch, exercise, do some gardening or have meetings. The 94 trees and other plants provide shade, shelter and cooling. That is important at this location, which catches a great deal of sun, wind and heat from glass and solar panels. For that reason, the vegetation has been carefully selected to withstand heat, drought and wind.
In addition, the garden boosts biodiversity. Fruit trees, herbs, seed and fruit plants, and shallow water bowls attract birds and insects. Rainwater is collected and reused for watering the plants. Thus, the rooftop garden shows how a large office building rooftop can contribute to a healthy working environment, provide cooling, collect rainwater and boost nature.
