Amsterdam Weatherproof

Amsterdam Weatherproof network organisation is committed to raising awareness of the impact of extreme precipitation. In the purview of the LIFE-IP Climate Adaptation programme, they are expanding their website to include information on the consequences of heat, drought, and flooding. That is why since 2024 they are no longer called 'Amsterdam Rainproof' but Amsterdam Weatherproof.

Project objective

Creating awareness ultimately results in the adaptation of policy and regulations. This is essential in the field of climate change. Climate-proof designs must be a matter of course for living environments, according to Amsterdam Weatherproof.

Implementation

The Amsterdam Weatherproof website was long focused on rainfall, but  information will also be provided on other issues, such as heat, drought and flood risk. For each issue, the organisation is compiling a toolbox of measures and preparing a “map of solutions”. This map shows the issues affecting each area as well as potential solutions.

A wide array of solutions and climate adaptation measures is available. What measure is of interest to whom? To answer that question, the network organisation will be launching a coaching track. Six “rain coaches” will visit residents at home to provide advice regarding climate-adaptive designs for their homes and gardens.

Furthermore, Amsterdam Weatherproof is working on a monitoring tool to gauge progress in climate-proofing the city.

Results

  • Amsterdam Weatherproof has expanded its website to include three themes: heat, drought and flood risk. Each theme page features information on the specific topic, a risk map and a series of measures.
