Increasing sponge effect of the soil and water systems in the Utrecht-Southwest region
Government bodies in Utrecht-Southwest have joined forces in the “Water & Climate” network. The climate and climate adaptation are issues that extend beyond the realm of government bodies. The efforts and know-how of residents, businesses, and NGOs are also important for climate-proofing the region and ensuring its water resilience.
Project objective
This project is aimed at raising awareness among the parties involved and enhancing their action preparedness. The Utrecht-Southwest governments intend to increase the absorbance of the soil and water systems, and to render the region climate-adaptive. Key components are developing knowledge and sharing experience. The efforts being expended under this project tie in with the Regional Adaptation Strategy of the Water & Climate network.
Implementation
Four “demonstration projects” will be carried out. Each project is unique and geared to one of the four types of landscape in the Utrecht-Southwest region. Collaboration with residents, businesses, housing corporations, and other stakeholders is key. Knowledge amassed regarding funding, collaboration, participation, and technological innovation is widely shared.
