Local climate information

Because of its global scale, many people regard climate change as an abstract issue. However, in many cases, adaptation to climate change involves local efforts. Hence, it is important to have local climate information.

Project objective

For all the KNMI climate scenarios and for a large number of climate variables, local climate information is made available via a web interface. In addition to spatial information, the interface also presents information on variation in time.

Implementation

The online environment will be a combination of an interactive climate atlas and the current climate dashboard. It will also contain a standard presentation for municipalities and regions. Using the web interface (for local climate information) and their own local information, they can create a presentation, fact sheet or digital magazine for their own regions.

The initial set-up for the online environment will be based on information regarding a limited number of climate variables for the KNMI’14 climate scenarios. Following publication of the KNMI’23 climate scenarios, a fully operational version will be created for the new scenarios (2023-2024).
