Schokland - Nagele Water and Spatial Planning atelier
Soil subsidence around the former island of Schokland adds urgency to the water tasking. However, the Zuiderzeeland district water board did not see any opportunities for linking the water tasking to spatial developments. The W+R [Water and Spatial Planning] atelier offers the district water board and the municipality a unique opportunity to embark on integrated area development.
Results
The atelier participants have explored integrated solution strategies. Combinations of recreation and habitation have been devised to expand the open water (widening watercourses, surrounding Schokland with water, floating homes). The focus is on enhancing the iconic scenery.
An area-based problem analysis and area-oriented solution strategies have been initiated. The district water board and the municipality of Noordoostpolder have gathered together a wide range of stakeholders in a one-day session.
The vision is the image of the future envisaged by all stakeholders together, jointly and individually: the dream that binds the partners. This leads to new forms of collaboration. It also serves as a touchstone for all the steps towards realisation. What is required to achieve this vision of the future? It is an exciting challenge to find new ways: finding creative solutions, inspired by the vision. We will find the new solutions in all types of fields. Designs, materials, funding, collaboration and whatever else.
