Climate Stress Test for Open Field Cultivation
Climate risks are putting business results under increasing pressure. Government authorities, farmers and consultants agree that action and knowledge sharing is imperative to boost the climate resilience of the agricultural sector. A helpful instrument in this respect is the Climate Stress Test for Open Field Cultivation. This enables farmers to calculate the effects of climate change on their own farms. The tool helps to initiate collective dialogues on the consequences of climate change for open field cultivation.
For whom?
The Climate Stress Test is intended for everyone involved in agricultural practice: farmers, consultants, agricultural education institutes and financial parties. They can use the tool to conduct a dialogue on climate change.
How can the tool be used?
The Climate Stress Test for Open Field Cultivation is intended as an easy-access tool for gaining insight into the risks of climate change at the farm level, and providing instruments for further action. The tool works as follows. First, you enter the four digits of your postcode. The tool then calculates the risks for your farm and shows the climate risks for each crop. Risks are calculated on the basis of the Agriculture Water Guide (Waterwijzer Landbouw, WWL) and expert estimates. Finally, the tool presents an overview of potential measures.
Who developed this climate stress test?
Wageningen Research, Open Field Cultivation business unit, has developed the Climate Stress Test on the instructions of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature. The process has involved close collaboration with various parties from actual practice, such as farmers, consultants and other professionals visiting farms, the financial sector, the education sector and other stakeholders involved.
