Guides for Safe Climate Adaptation
The two Guides to Safe Climate Adaptation help Safety Regions boost their commitment to climate adaptation. The first part mainly concerns the “how and why”; it outlines the role that Safety Regions can play in developments relating to climate adaptation. The second guide focuses on actual practice: what topics and measures are important in terms of providing advice, and how can these be put forward to municipalities, businesses or other stakeholders?
For whom?
The guides are intended for Safety Region consultants and managers. They can also be used by municipalities, businesses and other professionals; for them, the guides offer some insight into how the Safety Regions regard climate adaptation from a safety perspective.
How can the guides be used?
These guides can help to further professionalise the advisory role of the Safety Regions, and thus to reinforce collaboration in the field of climate adaptation with all partners, such as municipalities, provinces and district water boards. The guides have been set up as a practical instrument. They provide a range of tips and examples, overviews of relevant documents and concrete tools for advice. Elements of the first guide can also be used for initiating a dialogue. The first part focuses on the strategy and the embedding of climate adaptation in the work of the Safety Regions. Part 2 bundles together the know-how needed to provide advice on adaptation.
Who has developed the guides?
Both guides have been developed by the Netherlands Institute for Public Safety (NIPV).
