On Soil Basis Manual
In order to garner more attention for the role of the soil and subsoil in resolving spatial planning issues, BoschSlabbers landscape architects, Deltares research institute and other parties have developed the “On Soil Basis” manual. This manual offers practical tools for professionals who want to integrate soil and water systems into spatial design and development processes.
For whom?
The manual has been developed for designers, urban developers and policymakers.
How can it be used?
The manual contains a convenient step-by-step plan that designers and policymakers can use to set to work. This step-by-step plan has been elaborated for sand, clay and peat soils, featuring practical building blocks, strategies and cost-benefit analyses for each soil type. Thus, the manual can be used in various urban contexts, for both new developments and redevelopment projects.
Who has developed the manual?
The manual has been developed under a research project being carried out by BoschSlabbers landscape architects, Deltares research institute, Huib Sneep, the municipality of Alphen aan de Rijn, BPD Gebiedsontwikkeling area developers and Vereniging GPKL (Municipal Cables and Pipes Platform). The manual is the second component of this project. It is the product of the design study entitled “On Soil Basis part 1”, which explored the values of six locations in the municipality of Alphen aan de Rijn. The lessons learned have been elaborated further and compiled in this manual, part 2.
