Effects of heat

The increasing heat has a wide range of consequences. Heat can cause health issues and additional mortality among vulnerable groups. Furthermore, it can, e.g., affect labour productivity and cause damage to infrastructure.

Click on the links below to read more about the three heat domains: outdoors (the environment), indoors (buildings), and public health. The pages provide more information on the impact of heat and on various measures to mitigate its impact. Furthermore, this page features a brief overview of tools that help to gain insight into the effects of heat.

  • Environment: Impact on outdoor spaces
  • Buildings: Impact on indoor spaces
  • Public health: Impact on public health

Overview of tools

The Heat in the Built Environment Menu Map provides an instant picture of the steps that municipalities can take in the pursuit of heat resilience. The NAS conceptual diagram “It is becoming warmer (pdf, 302 kB)” shows where increasing heat can cause problems. Furthermore, it shows how heat can impact various sectors, such as public health, leisure activities, and Nature. An additional mind map reflects the impact of urban heat.
